Introduction:

We have them in our pockets each and every day, but have you ever wondered if it’s possible to shoot real estate photography with an iPhone? In this blog, we will be putting the new iPhone 13 to the test and giving you our top tips for capturing professional, magazine-quality images with this latest release from Apple.

In previous blogs, we have discussed how to shoot real estate photography with an iPhone 11 and an iPhone 12 and we’re excited to share with you some of the latest upgrades with the newest smartphone on the market. As a stock, the iPhone 13 does come with a wide-angle lens which is perfect for real estate photography, and for this example we will be shooting single exposures and processing the images with our Image Enhancement service.

Shooting The Exterior Of The Property

To get started, we are setting the iPhone 13’s camera to shoot the exterior of the property. You simply want to open up the camera function on the smartphone, turn off the flash, turn off the live function and set the zoom to 0.5x and then zoom in to approximately 0.6x to ensure you capture a realistic shot of the home’s facade. Then, it’s just a matter of framing up the shot, maintaining a steady hand, and capturing the image.

Capturing The Interior Of The Home Using The iPhone

Like all real estate photography, it’s important to ensure the internal spaces are well-prepared for the shoot. Turn on the lights, turn off any fans, open any blinds or curtains and tidy up where possible. These simple adjustments will help keep any potential buyers focused on the property itself and not distracted by unnecessary objects or clutter in the shot.

We have maintained the zoom setting on 0.6x before lining up the shot and taking the photo.

A key tip is to always take at least two shots of each space just to ensure you have a backup image of the property. This will protect you from any movement or blurring that may occur when not using a tripod and means you won’t have to rush back to the property and get a replacement photo.

As you can see in the below image, we have captured the hallway to provide depth along with the stunning mountain view framed by the window. Having these key elements front of mind when shooting your listings can help your properties stand out from the crowd.

By tapping on the screen, you are able to guide the focus and assist with the exposure to ensure all relevant details are highlighted. In the below example, we have tapped on the mountain outside the sliding doors to really bring this into focus and show any potential buyers the incredible views on offer.

Whether you’re shooting interior or exterior living spaces, it’s a good idea to capture as many features and elements in frame as possible. In the below example, we have focused on the deck, the backyard, the pool, and of course, that captivating outlook.

The same preparation principles continue into the bedroom where you will need to open any blinds and doors, turn on the lights and turn off any ceiling fans. Of course, we always want to make sure the bed is made and that the bedside tables are clear of any unwanted items.

As standard, our Image Enhancement edit will remove both the photographer and camera from any mirror reflections allowing you to capture the perfect shot without worrying about standing out of the way of the mirror. This is a fantastic feature of our edit and makes capturing bathrooms so much easier.

Pool cleaners, pool toys, and equipment can all be removed using our Item Removal edit ensuring your outdoor areas shine in the finished photos. As with the interior, it’s good practice to remove as many unwanted items from the shot as possible when capturing the exterior of the property, however, our team of professional editors can always help with item removal.

Why not elevate your shots even further and create the stunning hero shot by choosing the Day To Dusk edit option? This enticing edit has been shown to increase the click-through rate on ads by up to 400% or even 500% on major listing portals.

Conclusion

As we have highlighted in this blog, using an iPhone 13 for your property photography is such a simple and efficient tool for real estate agents, property managers, or commercial agents. The point-and-shoot appeal of this latest release from Apple makes it an incredibly valuable tool that can produce outstanding results when paired with our full suite of editing services.
